How long is a piece of string? Pallet racking is something which can be truly tailored to meet your requirements, which means that is a very difficult question to answer! I am going to try and answer it anyway though in todays blog!
Everyone wants to maximise space, that?s why we install pallet racking in the first place. And the higher your shelves, the more space you?re saving. But how high can you build?
Well the good news is that Advanced Handling & Storage Ltd are here to build to your needs and will make the shelves as tall as you want. The bad news is that practical limitations are going to enforce limits.
This may seem like it goes without saying, but you are limited by the ceiling of your warehouse. Most warehouses have a high roof, so it?s not always a big limitation, but it is something you?ll want to be aware of if you?re using a non-warehouse space.
The main limitation on storage height is forklift height. If you want a forklift that can reach 36 feet in the air, you?re going to pay more for it than a basic one that can lift 10 to 15 feet. There are scissor lifts and other alternatives too, but the simple point remains: You can?t build shelves higher than your equipment can reach.
If your top shelves are holding stock that needs to be accessed multiple times a day, or is on fast turnaround or is an awkward shape, it may not suit being stocked high up. The time wasted waiting for specialist equipment to become free, or physically negotiating the goods down may negate any savings made by building the extra shelf.
Since pallet racking can be used to hold almost anything, a question that comes up frequently is ?How much weight can it take??
The good news is that pallet racking is a very robust system that can endure huge weights. It will vary based on your particular setup. We are able to advise you on the maximum capacity of your current system and help you reinforce it if necessary, or we can build a new system entirely to meet your needs.
Adjustable Pallet Racking is one of the most widely used system of pallet storage and we?re able to store up to 7200kg per pair. That?s almost 8 tonnes of support. To put that into context, the average car weights between 1 and 3 tonnes. So one pair of beams could support over 7 Mini Coopers.
It is worth checking how much weight your floor can take. It shouldn?t be an issue in the vast majority of ground floor premises, but please feel free to ask out experts to take a look.
If you want to maximise your warehouse space through the use of second hand or new pallet racking, please don?t hesitate to get in touch with us on 0800 345 7088 or send an email to?sales@advanced-handling.co.uk
