Did you know that there are 621,000 non-fatal workplace injuries in Britain per year! Now that?s a massive number! This is from the latest set of statistics from HSE.
RTITB is encouraging businesses in food services, transport and storage, wholesale, retail and manufacturing sectors to do more to improve workplace safety.
These particular sectors have significantly higher than average injury rates.
During 2015/2016 there where on average 1920 injuries per 100,000 workers. In Food services there where on average 2260 injuries per 100,000 workers and in the transport and storage sector, there were on average 2500 injuries per 100,000 workers? that is almost a third over the national average!
Many of these injuries in the transport and storage sector where related to transport & Storage, handling, working at heights and operating machinery.
As a result on injuries, the cost to Britain is estimated at over ?4.8million every single year!
There are also expected to be 4.5 million days lost due to injury every single year!
There are also fines totalling ?38.3 million annually following prosecutions due to health and safety breaches.
This just goes to show the importance of keeping your racking safe and ensuring you have your annual safety inspections and have some sort of safety product in place to help reduce these numbers and so you do not become a statistic.
